The diagram at left illustrates the Damus-Kaye-Stansel Procedure, in which the aorta and pulmonary artery are joined using a patch (pink). The blue tube is known as a Modified Blalock-Taussig Shunt. The Damus-Kaye-Stansel Procedure is one of several surgical operations used in Double Inlet Left Ventricle congenital heart disease cases where complications have arisen, obstructing the flow of blood through the aorta to the body. |
