Tetralogy of Fallot accounts for 10% of the cases of congenital heart disease. It is the most common cyanotic (blue) heart defect. There are 4 structural heart problems in Tetralogy of Fallot:
1) A large ventricular septal defect (VSD).
2) A narrowing of the outflow tract from the right ventricle. 3) An enlarged aorta sits directly above the ventricular septal defect. 4) A thickening of the muscle wall of the right ventricle. Tetralogy of Fallot Repair is often done in the first few months of life. This defect affects boys and girls with equal regularity. |
